Library Media Center
Welcome to the Library Media Center!
Dorchester District Two libraries strive to support and enhance the district’s mission of leading the way, every student, every day through relationships, rigor and relevance. We do this by providing access to library books and instructional materials as well as teaching lessons to support all areas of the curriculum.
It is our goal to assist members of the learning community to become effective and ethical users of ideas and information, to develop the skills necessary for independent life-long learning and to have a love of reading for pleasure and personal growth.

About Your Library Staff
Laura Smith
Media Specialist
Hello! I look forward to working with our Tiger Cubs, staff, and parents this school year. I have been the media specialist at Alston-Bailey since the school’s opening in 2016. I graduated from the University of South Carolina with a bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Mass Communications in 2002 and a master’s degree in Library and Information Science in 2016.
As a media specialist, I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to interact with every student in the school. One of my most important goals is to enable independence and individuality and encourage students to explore their interests and passions so that they will want to be life-long readers and learners.
Katrina Shatzer
Media Assistant
The 22/23 school year was my first year at Alston-Bailey Elementary!
I have enjoyed getting to know all the students and working in a school environment.
In 2008 I received my undergraduate degree in Communication from the Pennsylvania State University. Then in the fall of 2009 completed my Master’s of Science degree in Communication Studies from Shippensburg University.
I’m looking forward to making memories here at Alston-Bailey!
