Vision Statement: Alston-Bailey Elementary School is a place where PRIDE and excellence are demonstrated daily to produce world class citizens and leaders.
Mission Statement: Alston-Bailey Elementary School prepares all students for college and life by providing a rigorous curriculum that is relevant to a students’ life in a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment.
Meeting norms: Come to meetings on time and prepared. Be an active listener to presentations. Stay focused on our school mission and vision. Place your cell phone on vibrate and put it away. Computers should only be used if you are taking notes. Time out and foul hand signals will be used to maintain order and respect during our meetings.

- Increase recognition opportunities for students that demonstrate world class citizenship.
- Continue literacy focus so that all students are reading on or above grade level.
- Increase math achievement so that all students are meeting and exceeding grade level expectations.

2. Minutes from September 1 Meeting
SIC meeting was held on September 1 at 7:30AM . Introductions were made by Principal Bodison and Title One Facilitator/Reading Coach Ms. Lehner. Attendees received an SIC document about frequently asked questions. Attendees also had an opportunity to meet school resource Officer Armbruster.
Meeting was adjourned at 8:00AM and parents were allowed to report to their child’s class for a visit.
3. Principal’s Update
We are working towards helping students reach their academic and behavioral goals.
We are continuing to keep parents informed with call out’s, text messages, emails, class dojo, Schoology, and Facebook.
We have analyzed our Fall MAP data. We will work on strengths and weaknesses.

2. Minutes from October 6th Meeting
In the October 6th SIC meeting School improvement Council asked for nominations. Parents Wendy LaPointe and Jessica Mizzell were nominated. Attendees provided feedback on safety and achievement at Alston-Bailey Elementary School. Families were then able to visit classrooms.
3. Principal’s Update
We had a wonderful Red Ribbon Week, Grandparents Meet The Teacher Event, Book Fair Event, Anti-Bullying Month, and Fall Field Day!
Our November 1st Club Day went smoothly. Learning Buddy Day will be on Monday.
Leading Ladies Mentors and Tiger Cub Mentors are continuing to meet with students.
Winter MAP Testing is coming up next month. Our Fall Data is below:

2. Minutes from November 3rd Meeting
In the November SIC meeting, Principal Bodison shared an update on Safety and Student Achievement feedback from parents. School counselors shared an update about topics that they will be covering with students. Parents were given time to share suggestions on school improvement and then they were able to visit classrooms.
3. Principal’s Update
Counselors are teaching students about personal body safety.
Today is Special Educators Appreciation Day! We love and appreciate our SPED team.
Students will have clubs again on December 6.
Leading Ladies Mentors and Tiger Cub Mentors are continuing to meet with students.
Winter MAP Testing is coming up. Students will take the Reading test on December 12 and the Math test on December 13. Our Fall Data is below. We are aiming for 70% or higher in ELA and Math for Winter MAP testing.

In the January 12 SIC meeting, Officer A shared an update on safety and Nurse Hali Segelken shared an update from our health clinic on health and wellness. Tracy Taloe and Scott Mattews from the district office shared district employment opportunities. Introduction
This report is provided to parents in compliance with the Education Finance Act (EFA) of 1977, the Education Improvement Act (EIA) of 1984, and the Elementary and Secondary Academic Act (ACT 135) of 1993. It presents information about school accomplishments and updates on the 2019-2020 goals.
The School Improvement Council (SIC) serves as an advisory group to the ABES principal and school. The SIC plays a crucial role in school improvement by bringing together all stakeholders, parents, educators, and community members.

SCHOOL INSTRUCTIONAL GOALS
• 75% of students will attain a text reading level of “4” or above by the end of kindergarten.
• 75% of students will attain a text reading level of “18” or above by the end of first grade
• 75% of students will attain a text reading level of “28” or above by the end of second grade.
• 75% of students will attain a score of “Met or Higher” in grades 3-5 reading.
At Alston-Bailey, we accomplish these goals by:
- Using strategies and programs proven by research: Literacy Model, Math Model, Best Practices
- Setting goals for improvement: Benchmark Goals, Reading Goals, Behavior Goals, and Academic Goals
- Measuring student progress using: ELA Formative Assessments, Math Formative Assessments, Universal Screeners (AIMS, MAP-Measures of Academic Progress), Developmental Reading Assessment (DRA 3), Myigdis/SOS and Literacy Assessment Portfolios.
- Ensuring teachers are well trained and highly qualified: On-going staff and professional development
